The 2020 Central Region Midget AAA Championship is being hosted by the reigning champions, the Toronto Young Nationals of the GTHL. The Nationals, under the guidance of head coach Brett Punchard have made steady progress over the past 5 years emerging as one of the top teams not only in the GTHL, and OHF, but in Canada. Just last season the Nationals won the Central Region Midget AAA Championship, and went on to win the Telus Cup Midget AAA Championship in Thunder Bay.
Over the past 6 years, the Young Nationals have appeared in the Telus Cup 4 times. After winning gold in 2019, they hope to repeat their title at this year’s Championship tournament.
The Toronto Young Nationals are excited and honoured to be this year’s host of the Central Region Midget AAA Championship. Here are a few interesting facts about Toronto’s North York district:
- Downsview Park offer ease of access from a transportation logistics perspective; it is in close proximity to several of Toronto’s 400 series provincial highways, and there is a TTC subway station in Downsview Park close to the arena.
- Yorkdale Mall is close to Downsview Park and features over 300 stores, restaurants and entertainment options.
- Tourist attractions in downtown Toronto include the Hockey Hall of Fame, the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada and the Royal Ontario Museum.
